Job Duties: Lead the development, implementation, and operations of energy storage plant controls, data acquisition system, network architecture, and overall supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) for GridStor’s projects currently in development and in construction.  Play a critical role in GridStor’s ability to successfully integrate batteries, inverters, fire protection, utility signals, and other balance of plant devices into a utility-scale energy storage system.  Lead management of SCADA/controls vendors including project management, schedule, budget and other oversight to ensure the control vendor(s) successfully deliver a full SCADA control system for the projects that integrate battery management system (BMS), inverter, relays, metering, and data acquisition system (DAS). Develop GridStor control design criteria and best practices for projects, for example: preferred hardware equipment list, redundancy and uptime design requirements, network architecture including network security controls, and control functions and modes compliant with California Independent System Operation (CAISO), Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), or other market requirements. Develop testing and validation requirements during factory acceptance tests, site commissioning, and site acceptance tests, which may include hardware-in-the-loop tests and live hardware tests for the vendors to implement.  Review proposals, contracts, and other agreements to determine requirements and scope of work. Work with control vendors, external commissioning team, and engineering procurement and construction (EPC) during installation and commissioning of the SCADA control system providing owner oversight and troubleshooting support. Develop human machine interface (HMI) and dashboard requirements and interface for both local and remote access. Ensure compliance with all cybersecurity requirements including North American Electric Reliability Corporation – Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC-CIP). Work with internal Asset Management and Market Operations teams on data management for operations. Implement an internal quality program for vendors and projects to comply with. Perform other responsibilities that may arise.

Position requires 4 weeks of domestic and international travel per year.

Requirements: Applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree or foreign academic equivalent in Electrical Engineering, or related, plus 3 years of experience as a Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, or related.  Experience must include:
  • 3 years of experience developing, testing, commissioning, deploying and troubleshooting controls in the power plant industry
  • 2 years of experience implementing NERC CIP and relevant cybersecurity industry standards, including NERC Protection and Control standards PRC-019, -024, -025, and -027
  • 2 years of experience designing and/or programming with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Dell, Rockwell Automation, or Siemens
  • 2 years of experience programming in languages including programmable logic controller-based, Python, Java and others
  • 2 years of experience developing data software platforms (OSI Pi, Ignition, etc.) and application programming interface protocols (REST, SOAP, JSON, etc.)
  • 2 years of experience implementing DNP3, MODBUS TCP along with familiarity with SunSpec

All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently.  Must pass background check prior to hire.
