As the manager, operations, and performance, you will work closely with senior organization members to evaluate the internal and external tools needed to operate utility-scale standalone storage systems safely and efficiently in various ISOs within the United States, develop internal analytical approaches to performance monitoring and reporting, and support the entry of the organization into new markets. This role will enable the rapid growth of a profitable, entrepreneurial energy storage business by building the business processes around how we measure performance and ensure compliance with all ISO dispatch and market rules.  This position has significant responsibility across multiple grid geographies and be exposed to the entire picture of how a cutting-edge, growing, entrepreneurial business can safely operate the newest technologies in the energy industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize data science and analytical approaches to estimate the health and performance of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and identify areas of improvement.
  • Design data analytics ETL processes to create visualization tools that monitor storage asset physical performance via SCADA and EMS systems.
  • Work closely with the Engineering and Trading teams to investigate performance related issues and maximize the profitability and performance of GridStor’s assets.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • 4 years of prior work experience in the energy industry, preferably in a performance engineering, operations analyst, or real-time operator role.
  • Understanding of the entire life cycle of a dispatch packet from ISO server to on-premise EMS (ICCP, TCP/IP, DNP3/MODBUS, etc.).
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with ADS, SCADA, EMS, and SQL required.
  • Programming experience required, with a focus on python or R.
  • Visualization experience preferred (Plotly, Bokeh, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and statistical modeling skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible, creative, and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to interact and build relationships with a wide variety of people.
  • Preference for knowledge on Transmission Operations and ISO Tariffs and Business Practice Manuals to help ensure GridStor operates within the expectations of each ISO, particularly dispatch operations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.
  • Strong team player with ability to take initiative and work independently.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • GridStor offers an attractive Total Rewards package, including:
    • Competitive base salaries commensurate with experience with an annual cash bonus (based on Company and individual performance)

Company Operating Principles:
GridStor’s Operating Principles represent who we are, how we work, and what we believe.

We Collaborate. We believe trust is given, not earned. We honor each other’s zone of genius and seek to challenge ideas, not each other. We listen to each other’s points of view and work hard to find the better solution. We are one team.

We Are Humble. We like hard work, but don’t make work hard. We know we have a lot to learn and never grandstand or take up all the space in the room. We are kind. We are welcoming. We are inspired by our mission to decarbonize the grid.

We Create the Future. We are curious. We go deep, search for the best idea, and then move fast. We always focus on the few things that matter most. We know there will be setbacks, so we show up every day ready to learn and be better, together.

We Show Up for Each Other. We keep each other fully informed. We seek to understand. We coach, we don’t blame. We share our points of view and seek to make each other better every day. We believe everyone creates culture in every moment, every day.

We Do Hard Things. We view challenges as opportunities. We are resilient. We are all owners, and we act like it. We understand change requires taking risks and we push ourselves and our partners. We do what is right as opposed to what might be best for any one of us.
